Another donor! (Susan Fisher, Your Local Art) #HomeswithWoofs

Susan Fisher is the brains behind Your Local Art, a business which represents a collection of Ottawa artists whose original works are sold as prints through Susan’s website (canvas, paper and laminate). It’s a brilliant idea, making art by local artists affordable, and there’s a wonderful assortment of art on that website as well including paintings by Susan herself, whose passion for art is a life-long affair.

Encouraged by her family, she enjoyed drawing and painting classes and courses throughout her school years. In earning her BA (English) at Carleton University, she elected to study Art History and then, after graduating, Susan moved to Toronto to study at the Ontario College of Art. Susan also studied at Concordia University in Montreal: while living in Montreal, she met Oscar, a rescue dog, and well, as they say, the rest is history.

Luckily for us, Susan got wind of Homes with Woofs and has offered to volunteer (she’s going to bake dozens of gluten-free cookies in doggie shapes) as well as to donate  two of her marvelous prints.Homes with woofs doghouse cookies

Now I can already tell that Susan is the consummate marketer! She’s already blogged about our event and she’s been on Twitter asking for feedback as to which of the wonderful prints of her paintings she should donate. (Personally, I love all of them.)

Here are just a few of the choices: the first is called  Hard at Play.

And then there’s this lovely painting, appropriately titled What to Choose.  It features Oscar, a handsome schnauzer. I think it’s pretty clear which one Oscar likes!

We’re very happy to have Susan as a volunteer as well as an artist donor. Do check out her website  ( www.YourLocalArt.com) and her blog, and you can follow her on Twitter as @yourlocalart. You can bid on her  prints at our Homes with Woofs event (and meet the artist!) on June 12 at City Hall. It’s an easy date to remember: it’s the same day as the Ontario provincial election.
