George and I had a great meeting with Kent Browne, our owner/broker, at Royal LePage Team Realty today, and Royal LePage will be one of our sponsors for the Homes with Woofs! event. Kent runs around thirty-five charity auctions a year, and had some great suggestions for us. Next steps: confirming our date and venue. Our city councillor, Katherine Hobbs, may be able to get us the use of the Jean Pigott Room at City Hall. We’re thinking we’ll hold our silent auction the Wednesday or Thursday after BarkStreet, which will be on Sparks Street June 14-15 and will involve all things doggy.
Once we have the venue nailed down, we’ll have to do all the logistical work of organizing this event, and there will be lots to do. If you can help out, let us know!
In other updates, Susan Halls, who does brilliant ceramic animal sculptures, is donating one of her beautiful sculptures to the cause, and Sharon Vanstarkenburg is donating one of her wonderful paintings (I’m a huge fan)! And Cathy Macdonald of Ottawa Mortgage Brokers will put together one of her amazing gift baskets. (I bought one of these for a client last year as a housewarming gift — they’re awesome!). Thanks to all of you!
We need about thirty silent auction items, so if you’re an artist or artisan or would just like to contribute in some way, that would be fantastic! Remember, we can issue tax receipts through the Humane Society to all donors. (And OHS will issue tax receipts for supplies to all the contractors who build doghouses.)
Mark Sherman, another realtor with Royal LePage and former contractor is going to build us a doghouse out of an old wine barrel (now that’s my kind of doghouse! ), and Kent Browne has committed to providing one too. Which gives us nine.
We’re hoping to have fifteen to thirty for sale so if you know a builder/designer/ carpenter/ tradesman/ architect who might want to participate, be sure to share this link. This is going to be a fun project! ~Peggy
